
(Beijing, April 20) In the men's individual foil quarterfinals of the "Good Luck Beijing" 2008 FIE World Championships this afternoon, China's Zhang Liangliang lost to top-seeded Baldini Andrea of Italy to be knocked out of the semifinals.
The first two bouts saw Zhang Liangliang suffer a shaky start to trail by 3-5 and both sides receive a yellow card. With one minute left in the decisive bout, Zhang was still 4 hits behind. Although he spared no efforts in counterattacking and managed to narrow the gap to 1 hit by the last four seconds he could not help conceding the match to his Italian opponent 15-13.
In the other three quarterfinal matches, Germany's Kleibrink Benjamin beat Poland's Glonek Radoslaw 15-11, Italy's world No.6 Cassara Andrea thrashed France's Le Pechoux Erwan 15-8, and Russia's Cheremisinov Alexey overpowered Japan's 2006 Asiadchampion Ota Yuki 15-12, to make it to the last four.
