(Beijing, April 19) On the second day of the "Good Luck Beijing" 2008 FIE World Championships, Germany thrashed Poland 45-35 to earn the women's team epee bronze.

Poland opened the bronze-medal match with a 5-4 lead, and Germany counterattacked to lead 10-9 after equalizing the score 5 all and 9 all in the second bout. 

After taking the third and fourth bouts 13-11 and 20-14 Germany got a yellow card as the German coach cheered for their fencer in Chinese. The German fencer, encouraged by her coach, fought better and better and finished the fifth bout with a six-hit lead, 25-19. 

Germany then led the eighth bout by a wide margin of 12 hits (40-28) and added five more hits to secure the win 53 seconds before the end of the match.
