(Beijing, April 18) Italy outscored Germany 45-35 to win the men's team foil gold medal match of the "Good Luck Beijing" 2008 FIE World Championships this evening at the Fencing Hall of the National Convention Center.

Prior to the final, Germany ranked first with Italy third. However it was Italy who dominated the match throughout. The Italians led 5-1 and 8-4 at the first and second bout.

In the third bout, each side got one yellow card and Italy won 15-8.

The eighth bout was called within three minutes as Italy reached 40 hits and Germany never recovered in the ninth, falling 45-35 for the silver medal.

The bronze went to Poland, who fended off a late run by Russia to win 44-43 in the third-place decider.

The women's team epee competition will begin tomorrow morning.
